Custom display stands for your retro games

Retro Display Lab is an online design tool. Tell it which console and how many games you have, and it designs a stand sized for them and for your printer. You export the design as a file and print it on your own 3D printer.

  1. Design it in your browser
  2. Export the file
  3. Print it yourself

We don’t sell printed stands. You’re getting a design tool. Any FDM printer that fits the shelf will do. Joining the waitlist also gets you a free fit-test file.

Select your system

Pick a system to see a shelf for it. Slots are sized from each game’s dimensions, and game shells differ between regions, so check yours against the size shown. Missing a system or a region? Tell us which one and it goes on the list.

Why not just download a free stand?

If a free stand already holds your games and suits your shelf, use it. There are good ones. Display Builder is for when the ready-made ones don’t.

Your count, your printer

Set how many games and how many per row. The size updates as you go and you’re warned before you export anything too big for your print bed.

Test the fit before a long print

Print the free one-slot fit-test file first, then pick Snug, Standard or Roomy to suit your printer. You find out in minutes, not after a whole stand.

Games in their covers

Game Boy games can sit in their plastic dust covers. Pick “In dust cover” and the slots are sized for it. That size is still an estimate, so print the fit test first.

One look for the whole collection

Every stand comes from the same design, so your N64, Game Boy and Mega Drive shelves match. Choose an angled or tray holder and how far the games lean back.

How it works

  1. The builder's layout controls: profile, slots, cartridges per row and fitChoose a system and how many games to hold. Slots are sized from each game’s dimensions, and a fit setting (Snug, Standard or Roomy) lets you allow for your printer's tolerances.
  2. The builder's 3D preview of an eighteen-game Game Boy Advance stand, with its size and filament estimateSet rows, holder style and tilt. The 3D preview, overall size and filament estimate update as you go, and you're warned if the shelf won't fit your printer bed.
  3. The builder's export panel with the Export STL buttonExport an STL, the standard 3D-print file, and print it yourself. It's checked to be watertight before you get it, and by default its underside is shaped to print without supports.

FAQs

What am I buying?

Access to Display Builder, the design tool. With access, you design stands and export them as STL files to print yourself. We don't sell printed stands or ready-made files.

What does it cost?

The planned price is a one-off US$12 at launch, going up to US$19 later, with no subscription. Designing and previewing will be free, and you pay once when you want to export. Sales aren't open yet. Until then the builder is free for the small group invited to early access, and the fit-test files are free for everyone who joins the waitlist. Think the price is wrong? Email hello@retrodisplaylab.com.

Will it fit my games?

Check the system list for your region first: Super Nintendo stands fit PAL and Super Famicom games, not North American ones, and Mega Drive stands fit PAL Mega Drive and North American Genesis games. Then join the waitlist to download a free fit-test file for your system: an STL of a single slot. Print it yourself and try a game in it before you design a full stand.

Can I suggest a system or a design?

Yes, please. Email hello@retrodisplaylab.com with the games you'd like supported next, stand designs you'd want, or anything that didn't work for you. It's one person reading every email, so replies can take a few days.

Do I need a 3D printer?

Yes, or access to one. The builder warns you if a shelf won't fit your printer bed.

What happens to my email address?

Only Retro Display Lab sees it. It's kept in our database and used to email you about early access and the launch price. It's never shared or sold, and we'll delete it if you ask. See the privacy policy.

Is this an official Nintendo, Sega or Atari product?

No. It's an independent project. Shelves are sized for those cartridges and carry no logos or game art.
